Techniques for Shaving Pubic Hair

Pubic shaving has not only become fashionable, but is now a matter of personal hygiene. Ever greater numbers of men and women are shaving their pubic areas simply to avoid sexually transmitted diseases (STD's).

We suggest you pay close attention to the following steps to avoid ingrown hairs and infections, which can appear as itchy or painful bumps. If you suffer from this condition consider using one of our popular ingrown hair, razor burn and razor bumps treatment on your bikini line. Note, these treatments cannot be used directly on your genitals.

Wet Shaving Pubic Hair

Shaving pubic hair with a razor and foam is time consuming and requires great care to avoid cuts.

Step 1: Trim Pubic Hair Short

  1. To simplify the whole process, trim genital hair as short as you can before using a razor. Razors are designed to shave relatively short hair, especially coarse pubic hair.
  2. Electric shavers, clippers and trimmers (with safety guards) are much easier to use. Scissors should be used with extreme caution.
  3. To trim your pubic hair, pull the hair up then trim. If you are new to pubic shaving, leave your hair short for a few days and allow yourself to become accustom to the feeling of being bare...

Step 2: Soften your Pubic Hair

  1. Soak your pubic hair in warm water or have a hot shower. This will soften the coarse pubic hair and makes it easier to remove.

Step 3: Lather Up

  1. Never shave your pubic hair without lubrication. Doing so will result in extreme discomfort! Use shaving foam, gel or cream to lather your pubic hair.
  2. Some people may suffer allergic reactions to certain shaving products, so choose carefully and do a patch test if unsure.

Step 4: Start Shaving

  1. Start shaving your pubic hair in the same direction of your hair growth. To get a closer shave you may want to try shaving in the opposite direction. However, this can cause irritations and ingrown hairs, but everyone reacts differently.
  2. Do not continually shave the same area, this may irritate the skin. A few short strokes should suffice. Stretch your skin taught to reach difficult hairy patches.
  3. First Timers: The genital area is very sensitive and may take time to adjust to being shaved. This sensitivity should disappear after four or five sessions. You probably won't achieve a perfectly smooth shave until you become more experienced. Take it slowly and learn to shave proficiently.

Step 5: Exfoliate

  1. Remove dead skin after shaving to keep your skin clean. Gently cleanse using a loofa sponge and your normal body soap. This will help remove any substances that might clog your pores and lead to infections and ingrown hairs.

Step 6: Moisturise

  1. After you have finished shaving, rinse off any hair, pat dry and moisturise the freshly shaven pubic area. Baby oil and aloe Vera can be used. Avoid moisturisers that contain fragrances and colouring agents, since they may cause irritations. You may want to powder the area afterwards for comfort. Don't use products that include talcum, it causes irritation.
  2. Talcum powder is frequently used by DRY shavers. It absorbs any oil and sweat around the pubic area, which leads to a superior dry shaving experience. However, the powder should be washed away after the shave has been completed. Care should be taken not to get any of the powder into the sensitive internal areas of the vagina or penis.

Dry Shaving Pubic Hair

  1. Shaving pubic hair with an electric shaver.

Step 1: Trim Pubic Hair Short

  1. Trim genital hair as short as you can before using a shaver. Shavers generally will only remove stubble length hair.
  2. To trim your pubic hair, pull the hair up and then start trimming away from the base of the hair.

Step 2: Soften your Pubic Hair

  1. Soak your pubic hair in warm water or have a hot shower. This will soften the coarse pubic hair and makes it easier to remove.
  2. Pat dry the area to be shaved, making sure it is completely dry before shaving.
  3. Use talcum powder to absorb any remaining body oil or sweat. Skin must be completely dry before shaving. Care should be taken not to get any of the powder into the sensitive internal areas of the vagina or penis.

Step 3: Start Shaving

  1. Start shaving your stubble length genital hair. If you use a shaver like the Seiko Cleancut then the foil will keep the blades away from the skin and prevent nicking and pulling.

Step 4: Exfoliate

  1. Remove dead skin after shaving to keep your skin clean. Gently cleanse using a loofa sponge and your normal body soap. This will help remove any substances that might clog your pores and lead to infections and ingrown hairs.

Step 5: Moisturise

Step 6: Maintenance

  1. Clean your genital area on a daily basis, removing unwanted oil and sweat. Moisturise and powder the area daily to avoid irritations. Make sure that no powder enters the inner parts of the penis or vagina in particular, this can lead to infections.
  2. Shave about once a week to avoid uncomfortable stubble, which may cause itching. Try to wear cotton underwear and avoid tight fitting clothes. The lack of air circulation and friction of tight clothing leads to ingrown hairs.

As you can see, wet shaving pubic hair is time consuming and requires practice to become profient. For a faster, dry shave consider using the Seiko Cleancut Pubic Hair Shaver. It's fast, convenient and a popular choice for thousands of people worldwide.

    OR
  2. Sit with one leg propped above your waist and the other leg resting on the floor.

Lying on Back

  1. Lie on your back with legs spread wide and raised in the air so that all the shaveable areas are spread taught.

    OR
  2. Lie on your side with the bottom leg straight out and the top leg bent at the knee and tucked behind the straight leg.

Squatting on Floor

Disadvantages of Pubic Hair Removal

Most people happily shave their pubic hair without any problems. However, for a small percentage of people, itching may occur when pubic hair begins to grow back. Red bumps and ingrown hair may appear. To relieve the irritation, consult a doctor, who will probably prescribe cortisone cream.

Some people have allergic reactions to certain shaving products, soaps, moisturisers and talcum powders. Try using hypoallergenic creams, moisturisers and soaps. If this fails, stop shaving or trimming your pubic hair. This is another reason why so many people have turned to a DRY shaver like the Seiko Cleancut.

Some women may feel genital sensitivity during menstruation. If this is the case, avoid shaving around the time of your period.

If a particular method of hair removal is not suitable for you, try another. For example, waxing may suit you better.

Conclusion

Pubic hair removal can be very satisfying as long as you take care and learn how to do it properly.
