The new wonder ingredient for hair growth: Anagain

Our hair is a complex structure consisting of an outer hair shaft, the part that we see protruding off our skin, and the inner shaft, which is the continuation of the outer shaft located underneath the skin. Along the sides are structures that support the hair like the sebaceous glands which help moisten or condition the hair. Arrector pili muscles have a sensory function. At the tip of the inner shaft is the hair bulb, which is the only structure filled with blood vessels since this is where new hair grows.

Hair growth consists of 3 phases:

Anagen – Growth Phase. During this phase, there is increased cellular activity, blood circulation and hair growth within the dermal papilla. Due to this rapid cellular growh, hair physically grows about an inch in one month. The duration of this phase is around 3 to 5 years but could last longer or shorter depending on the physical health, psychosocial condition, age, and genetics of an individual. About 85%–90% of the hairs on one's head are in the anagen phase at any given time.

Catagen – Transitional phase.. This is where the hair follicle “rests” or stops producing hair. The hair bulb shrinks and separates itself from the blood vessels. Though there is no cellular activity and hair growth, the inner shaft gradually pushes upwards due to the continuous shrinking of the hair bulb, which leads to the next phase.

Telogen – Shedding phase. The follicle will remain dormant for 2 to 4 months, the hair bulb will keep on shrinking until the base of the hair root falls off or “sheds”. After 2 weeks, the follicle will start to grow again and a new hair shaft will start to emerge, hence the end of the telogen phase.

Hair loss.

Natural hair loss occurs during the telogen phase, a process that lasts for a few months and affects about 10 to 15 percent of head hair . Unfortunately, due to several factors stated above, premature shedding (early/sudden telogen phase), delayed hair growth (late start of anagen phase) and an untimely end of anagen phase could lead to pathologic or unnatural hair loss.

Anagain for Hair Loss

Anagain (technically known as Pisum Sativum Sprout Extract) is based on extracts from organic bean sprouts. Sprouts are found to have the highest levels of phytonutrients, a compound that increases the plants’ resistance to diseases, pollutants, and extreme UV light. With Anagain, these extracted phytonutrients penetrate deep into the hair bulb. In a novel mechanism, Anagain stimulates the dermal papilla cells to produce signalling molecules required to successfully initiate the growth of new hair. This results to shortening the resting phase of the hair and stimulates the proliferation of hair matrix cells to start a new growing phase.

Benefits of Anagain:

1. Stimulates hair growth at the root

2. Shortens the resting phase of hair (telogen phase)

3. Promotes and prolongs the Growth phase of hair (anagen phase)

4. Fully restores hair vitality

5. Prolong the life cycle of hair

6. Denser hair in just 3 months
