ODD HAIR LOSS TREATMENT – COW DUNG

For centuries, bald men has been searching for ways for restoring hair regrowth. The remedies have been varied and included simple ones such as applying herb extracts, oil based treatments, and other concoctions. One of the strangest hair loss treatments is the use of cow dung. It is said that the Egyptians created a hair tonic made up of a mixture of herbs and cow manure to cure hair loss.

The idea might have stemmed from the fact that the waste of cows and other bovine animals helped to fertilize the soil, resulting to healthy growth of plants. But although cowpat is rich in minerals and is a good source of organic matter and nutrients, there is no scientific basis for using it to grow hair.

Hair loss is due to the natural ageing process, genetic predisposition or heredity, and the prevalence of dihydrotestosterone or DHT in the hair follicle. DHT is one of common reason for male pattern baldness. It begins with the male hormone testosterone. When this hormone combines with the enzyme 5 alpha reductase or 5AR, the result is dihydrotestosterone. In people who are genetically prone to hair loss, dihydrotestosterone causes miniaturization of the hair follicles which in turn leads to decreased width of the hair shafts. In time, the scalp hairs become finer and appear as peach fuzz or may disappear altogether.

Treating hair loss means stopping DHT at the scalp level. Using cowpat has no proof of stopping DHT and has no basis in controlling thinning hair. Modern medicine has come up with several ways to stop DHT. The drug finasteride is a synthetic antiandrogen that inhibits the enzyme 5AR to control the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Before use, one should be aware of the potential side effects including male sexual dysfunctions.

Saw palmetto extracthas been clinically proven to reduce the amount of DHT on the scalp. Because it is an herbal treatment, there are no associated adverse side effects even with long term use. Saw palmetto plus organic enzymes and essential amino acids is available in special hair treatment formulations for nourishing weak and thinning hair to help with hair growth.
